WatchHouse was founded in 2014 by Roland Horne in a 266-square-foot former 19th-century watch house on Bermondsey Street, originally built to shelter guards of St Mary Magdalen's churchyard. The brand now operates a flagship roastery, training lab and HQ beneath a railway arch on Maltby Street, where the team roasts seasonal espresso blends (1829), Ethiopian single-origins (Idilo Grade 1) and a Rarities programme of micro-lots. WatchHouse was named "Europe's Best Coffee Shop Chain" at the 2024 European Coffee & Hospitality Awards and expanded to New York in 2024.
