Tasting notes: Floral and refreshing. Melon, lemon and black tea In the tropical cloud forest along the Andes mountain ridges lies the 130-year-old coffee farm La Trinidad. From being one of Colombia's largest coffee farms in the 20th century, they now focus on a small production of exotic varieties. La Trinidad Family Farm: La Trinidad is a historic family‑run coffee farm in Cundinamarca, Colombia, founded in 1894 and managed by five generations. After shifting to cattle in the 1990s, the farm was revived by Alejandro Lloreda around 2015, restoring buildings and replanting coffee. Today it combines traditional and modern practices, growing both resilient varieties and exclusive cultivars. Solberg & Hansen has purchased Geisha from La Trinidad for three consecutive years. Two Harvest's a Year: Colombia’s equatorial climate allows coffee trees to flower and ripen in waves, producing two harvests: the main cosecha principal and the smaller mitaca. The main harvest typically offers the highest quality. From La Trinidad, we buy both, with the main harvest released as this micro‑lot of Geisha that you are looking at right now (CoE 88+). The mid‑harvest we have had previously in our exclusive category (CoE 85+). Geisha is a rare and relatively young coffee bean variety known for its exceptional intensity and complexity. Originally from the small town of Geisha in southwestern Ethiopia, the plant later reached Costa Rica and has become especially celebrated in Panama. The trees grow taller than most coffee plants and develop long, narrow leaves and cherries. To reach their full potential, Geisha plants must be cultivated at high altitudes. In the cup, they are recognized for their clean sweetness, bright berry and stone-fruit notes, and a fresh, bergamot-like finish.
