Son Pacamara Specialty Coffee grew out of a Da Lat farm run by former auto-parts salesman Nguyen Van Son, who began growing coffee in 2005 and unexpectedly acquired rare Pacamara trees, originally an El Salvador government gift to Vietnam, around 2010. Da Lat's climate helped the trees fruit for the first time, and by 2013 the resulting coffee scored above 80 points on the SCAA scale, making Son one of Vietnam's leading specialty coffee educators.
