Coffee
Kenya, Kiamutuira AB, Washed
17 EUR
Our last Kenyan coffee of the 2025 harvest. This Kiamutuira AB was grown at 1600-1700 masl, by over 600 smallholder farmers bordering the idyllic Mount Kenya forests in Kirinyaga. Farming is a traditional community activity, performed in the spirit of the Kikuyu people who are native to this area and who are famed for their agriculture. These farmers’ heritage includes healthy soil management and healthy processing measures. For example, farmers plant native trees on their plantations, mostly macadamias, to prevent the earth from saturation through monocropping but also to let the parchment dry gently in the shade and to protect it from excessive sunlight. Weather and soil in this area of Mount Kenya are very favourable for coffee cultivation. In particular the moderate climate (15-25°C) and the average annual rainfall provide excellent growing conditions, as well as the volcanic soil that further reinforce the fertility of the land. Farmers deliver their cherries to Kiamutuira Washing Station, a partner of the Mutira Cooperative society that was established in 1951. The washing facility was built in 1996 to meet the community's need for a reliable coffee processing partner. This coffee was sourced through our importing partner Trabocca.
