Tasting notes: Caramel, Apple, Blackberry Profile: Sweet, Velvety Know where your coffee comes from The Kenya Kii AB coffee is produced by the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society (F.C.S.), which supports about 1,215 active farmer members. Coffee farming in this region dates back to 1953, with the average farmer cultivating around 400 coffee trees on roughly one-third of a hectare. The cooperative manages three mills — Kii, Karimikui, and Kiangoi — governed by an elected board of seven members, representing each factory area. With 25 permanent staff overseen by a secretary manager, the co-op maintains strong organizational structure and quality control. Partnered with Sustainable Management Services Limited, the cooperative is actively engaged in a coffee-quality improvement project aimed at increasing both cup quality and yield. Farmers bring freshly picked cherries to the factory where the coffee is promptly depulped following sorting and separation. The beans undergo fermentation, typically overnight, before being thoroughly washed with fresh river water. Finally, the coffee is dried under full sun, preserving its delicate flavors.
