The Espresso Lab was founded in Dubai in May 2015 by Ibrahim Al Mallouhi, who trained at Bellissimo Coffee Advisors in Oregon after visiting coffee farms in Vietnam and Ethiopia. The company sources exclusively from microlot farms, and its baristas won the UAE Barista Championship in 2015 and 2016; Shamal Holding later acquired a majority stake in the brand.
