Bristol has been doing specialty coffee properly for longer than most UK cities, and it shows. Clifton Coffee wholesales across the west, Small Street Espresso holds down the centre, and a wave of independent shops — Full Court Press, Playground — have built a community of drinkers who actually know what they like.
The city is walkable enough to café-hop in an afternoon. Clifton Village for the picturesque version, Stokes Croft for the rougher edge, the harbour for where the city makes sense. Most roasters run seasonal menus and happily talk through their green sourcing.
