COUNTRY: Honduras LOCATION: Gualcinse, Lempira PRODUCER: Cosagual PROCESS: Washed CULTIVAR: Catuai, IHACafe-90 ALTITUDE: 1000- 1600 masl HARVEST: November – April MORE ABOUT THE PRODUCER The Gualcinse Agricultural Services Cooperative Limited (COSAGUAL) was founded on January 27, 1994, in the municipality of Gualcinse, in the department of Lempira, with the goal of finding direct solutions to the coffee marketing problems faced by many producers in the area. It was legally incorporated on May 5 of that year by the governing body of cooperatives in Honduras, IHDECOOP; today known as CONSUCOOP (National Supervisory Council of Cooperatives). COSAGUAL is made up of producers, adults and young people from the Gualcinse area and surrounding areas, who are coffee growers and/or children of coffee growers, 90% of whom are fully dedicated to the coffee industry and individually to other productive activities. COSAGUAL is located in the southern part of the department of Lempira, in the municipality of Gualcinse, at 1,325 meters above sea level. It is in a soil and climate zone conducive to coffee cultivation. The farms are managed in shaded mountain areas, thereby enabling sustainable production and ecosystem services. The cooperative’s coverage extends to the municipalities of Gualcinse, Candelaria, Piraera, San Andrés, Erandique, and Santa Cruz. This lot comes from about 60 smallholders from the Lempira department in Honduras. Cosagual is a cooperative dedicated to the production and marketing of coffee environmentally responsible, under systems of agroforestry to reduce erosion soils and the impact of climate change. Their range of coffee are washed SHG and HG and 2% of the production are microlots with natural process. Cosagual mission is to promote development process in families dedicated to agricultural production with gender equality and in harmony with the environment, providing services with responsibility, efficiency and commitment to their cooperative members. They are also certified by Fair Trade and Organic. The coffee harvest takes place between November and April. Only the mature cherries are picked to ensure the best possible cup quality. The harvest is carried out and transported on the same day to the cooperative wet mill. The centralisation of the wet mill reduces the impact on the environment, through a more efficient use of water and better management of coffee by-products (pulp and honey waters) DOWNLOAD INFO SHEET 80 STONE COFFEE ROASTERS LONDON Speciality Coffee Suppliers 80 Stone Coffee is a leading wholesale coffee supplier in London, roasting premium speciality coffee beans in our local roastery.
