Bear Pond Espresso was founded in 2009 in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo by Katsuyuki "Katsu" Tanaka, who returned to Japan after two decades in New York to open the shop with his wife. Tanaka pulls shots on a La Marzocco FB80 and is known for the Angel Stain, a limited-run signature espresso, and for inventing the Dirty coffee drink.
