In The Cup This washed lot from the Beshasha wet mill is a great example of a washed coffee from this region. As our first fresh crop Ethiopian of the season, this coffee is super elegant, clean and refined with loads of sweetness and refreshing, delicate acidity. We’re enjoying notes of peach, iced tea, orange blossom and dulce de leche. The Story Mustefa Abakeno is a pioneering coffee producer based in the Beshasha kebele of Ethiopia’s Jimma Zone, where he cultivates coffee on an 18-hectare farm reaching elevations of around 2,040 metres above sea level. Drawn by the region’s exceptional growing conditions and the diverse coffee varieties developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre, Mustefa has steadily built a reputation for quality and innovation. In 2018, following regulatory changes that allowed producers to export directly, he established the Beshasha washing station and began connecting his coffees directly with international buyers. Today, the station processes not only coffee from Mustefa’s farm but also cherries supplied by neighbouring smallholder farmers, helping to create greater value within the local community. Continuous investment in farmer training, quality control and infrastructure has further strengthened the project, supported by agronomist Harun and the Falcon Coffee team. Environmental stewardship is central to Mustefa’s approach, with coffee grown under shade, careful water management, ongoing agronomic support, and rejuvenation programmes such as coffee tree stumping trials designed to improve long-term farm productivity and sustainability.
