ORIGIN : Bahire, Ngozi Province, Burundi FARMER : Smallholder Farmers ALTITUDE : 1800 m VARIETAL : Local Bourbon Varieties PROCESSING : Washed ROAST : Light-Medium TASTING NOTES : Molasses, Lemon-Lime, Fig, Tropical Fruit, Chocolate Burundi is located in a mountainous area of Africa, forming part of the Albertine Rift in the Great Rift Valley. The country's nutrient-rich volcanic soil and high rainfall levels of approximately 1,200 mm per year contribute to Burundian coffee’s distinct, intense fruit flavors and syrupy sweetness. Burundi coffees feature flavor experiences like fruit punch, bright acidity, lingering candy-like finishes, expressiveness, and juiciness, with tropical notes. This particular coffee comes to us from a group called JNP coffee. JNP was founded in 2012 by Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian. They are known for their award winning coffees as well as their work promoting gender equality at the farm level. In Kirundi, one of the primary languages of Burundi, Dushime means “let’s be thankful.” The Dushime project at JNP is a project that gives a percentage of the premium earned at market back to JNP’s member/producers that can be used to pay for their kids’ education, make improvements to their farms, and hire labor to help with harvests. We roast on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and to ensure the best tasting coffees, orders received after Monday may not be processed or shipped until the following week.
