Los Osos, Colombia

Chocolate, Berry Jelly, Slightly Spicy Producer: Santa Maria Community Region: Huila Variety: Caturra, Typica Processing: Washed Altitude: 1,700 - 2,200m In our range of South American coffees you will usually find unique lots that have been specially selected by a single farmer. These are often coffees chosen for their unique flavors and distinct character. This coffee is a blend of several farmers and therefore has a subtle character of dark chocolate, soft fruit flavors and light spiciness.Los Osos, "The Bears", is completely dedicated to the spectacled bear & we like that. Tremarctos ornatus, also known as the "Andean bear", and locally as Jukuamari is a protected animal classified as "Vulnerable" by IUCN due to habitat loss. The aim is to help the local organizations raise awareness among coffee farmers increase the fact that certain agricultural practices can also endanger other native species, such as the spectacled bear, but also jaguars or birds. This coffee is a celebration of the work done in Santa Maria to protect the biodiversity in Parque Nacional Nevado del Huila. This group was until recently cut off from the international coffee market because their valley was controlled by the FARC. The FARC has since disappeared and the group of farmers led by Andres Perdomo has come into contact with our partner in Colombia, The Coffee Quest. Together with The Coffee Quest, all coffee berries from the harvest are carefully selected for quality in Santa Maria. It is important in this selection that not only the unique lots get all the attention. The rest of the coffee cherries are also carefully selected and sorted by quality and thus also sold for a worthy price. We are very happy with this way of working, because we now have a coffee in our range that is of excellent quality and can be offered in a high volume. 250g pack Espresso Recipe: 18-19g coffee (finely ground) brew time 28 seconds 38-42ml espresso Filter Recipe: 6.5 grams (coarsely ground) coffee per 100ml water brew time 2.5-3.5 minutes
