The coffee is grown under natural shade in an organic farming system by a network of 350 registered outgrower farmers, most of whom are women smallholder producers. Farmers carefully handpick only ripe cherries, ensuring high-quality raw material. Before processing, the cherries are floated to remove lower-density beans, and only the best cherries are selected. The coffee is then delivered to our Lensa Gari Washing Station, located in Hambela Wamena District, where it undergoes a natural processing method. After sorting, the cherries are slow-dried on raised African drying beds, allowing for consistent airflow and careful moisture control. This slow drying process helps preserve the coffee’s natural sweetness and complex flavor characteristics. At Lensa Gari Washing Station, we work closely with our outgrower farmers and consider them partners in our production system. Farmers receive a premium price for their cherries, and once the coffee is exported, we also provide dividend payments, ensuring that the value created reaches the producers. Beyond purchasing cherries, we support our farmers through technical agronomic assistance, including training on good agricultural practices and the distribution of improved coffee seedlings. Our goal is to strengthen sustainable production while maintaining close relationships with our farming community. For our buyers, this means that purchasing our coffee not only delivers high-quality Guji coffee, but also directly supports the livelihoods of our member farmers and the development of sustainable coffee farming in the region.
