Korongo AB — Tanzania / Washed Process
15 EUR
Origine This is our third consecutive harvest buying the Korongo AB, named after the Swahili word for ‘flamingo’, and sourced with our importing partner Sucafina Specialty. It is a regional blend that comes from a network of washing stations across Mbozi, Mbeya and Mbinga, curated by Sucafina’s locally based sister company, Sucafina Tanzania. Project Some of the funds from our purchase of this coffee are put towards the Coffee Tree Rejuvenation program that Sucafina has established in Tanzania. On average, smallholder producers in Tanzania see half the yields that producers in other countries such as Colombia see, and this is partly due to the prevalence of older coffee trees. The program provides financial support, free seedlings and agronomic training as incentives to replace their older trees with younger, higher yield ones. Coffee This coffee stands out in particular thanks to its sweet notes of dates, floral notes of chamomile, and juicy yet balanced pear acidity. Its texture is immediately reminiscent of a typical East African coffee we have come to know and love in specialty coffee, and makes it an excellent candidate to both serve as a component in our house blend Le Mixtape, and to be roasted on its own as an easy drinking filter coffee.
