Ngila is back! We're delighted to being continuing our relationship with the Ngila Estate in Glenmalure for a second year running after it's inaugural outing last year. We're chuffed, as building relationships like this, make their produce, even more special. Tanzanian speciality coffee holds a special place in our northern hearts; as it was one of the first speciality coffee regions to twist one of our co-founders arms into taking his career path after trying a particularly special cup at London Coffee Festival. The Ngila Estate is situated at between 1500 - 1600 MASL on the slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania, consisting of roughly 100 hectares of coffee trees cultivated with sustainable bio-diverse farming practices within the local conservation area supporting wildlife such as buffalo and elephants. Ngila takes a lot of pride in the speciality coffee it grows, with a vast majority of their offerings all scoring 84 points and above on the SCA grading chart, this one in particular at 86.5. All their produce is rainforest alliance certified. The estate also supports its workers and the local community through fair wages, medical assistance, education funding, and skills training. Many of the estate’s 100 employees have worked there for over 30 years. During the harvest season, additional employment opportunities are provided to over 250 workers, contributing significantly to the local economy. This year, the lot we've bought is a washed SL28 varietal, giving notes of blackcurrant, raisin and apricot. Super clean, full of bold fruit body, we love this as a pour-over.
