Harvest Colombia & Honduras - Anei & Comsa Cooperative Tasting Notes: Honey, Cocoa and Blueberry From the highlands of northern Colombia to the hills of Marcala, Honduras, this harvest brings together two cooperatives united by their commitment to organic farming, community empowerment and exceptional coffee. In the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Anei represents 700 smallholder farmers from diverse Indigenous communities. Their coffee thrives in the region’s high elevation and ideal climate, resulting in a cup that reflects its rich terroir. The name Anei comes from the language of the Arhuaco people, meaning “good” or “positive”, a fitting reflection of the cooperative’s purpose and values. Further north in Central America, Café Orgánico Marcala S.A. (COMSA) was founded in 2001 by 69 Honduran farmers seeking a more sustainable path. At a time when conventional farming left many unable to cover costs, COMSA embraced organic, chemical-free practices and prioritised quality. Now more than 1,200 members strong, the cooperative produces specialty-grade coffee and owns its own processing facilities. COMSA also invests in the future of its community, running a primary school and hosting organic farming education for growers across the region. Their naturally processed coffees offer a bold, fruity profile with lactic acidity, a rich body, and notes of berry and cocoa.
