Flavour Profile: Gooseberry, Blackcurrant, Green Apple Heritage • From the Region of Kibugu in Embu County • Grown in altitude of 1,600-1,800masl • SL28 & SL34 Varietals • Washed Process A stunning washed Kenyan coffee with lovely sweetness and complexity Located on the edge of Kibugu in Embu County, Gicherori Factory has been a cornerstone of community-led coffee production since 1994. Around 1,200 smallholder farmers deliver their handpicked cherries here, grown on the fertile volcanic slopes of Mount Kenya at high altitude under abundant rainfall. Only the ripest red cherries are selected, pulped with clean river water, and fermented overnight before being washed through tiled channels—a meticulous process that separates the densest, highest-quality beans. The coffee is then sun- dried on raised beds and carefully monitored until it reaches the ideal moisture level for milling. Environmental care runs deep at Gicherori. All processing water is treated in soak pits to protect local waterways, and farmers actively preserve indigenous trees that sustain regional biodiversity. Expect a cup that captures the clarity and structure of Embu’s terroir—bright acidity, silky texture, and a sweet, lingering finish. Roast Level: light-medium We roast the Gicherori AA to a light-medium level that really showcases its balance, soft acidity and sweetness. Perfect for filter and and makes a stunning espresso but please allow the beans to rest for a minimum of one week if possible.
