Chocolate, Toffee, Citrus, Tart, Nutty Region: Veracruz, Chiapas, Oaxaco Variety: Typica, Bourbon, Mundo Novo Processing: Washed Altitude: 1,000m - 1,800m Sierra Madre is the successor of our very popular Chiapas. This truly is a good representation of what coffee from Mexico can be. Grown in the Eastern Sierra Madre mountain range, this is a very clean, washed coffee with notes of toffee, citrus. It’s a bit nutty in it’s mouthfeel and has some other sweet fruit notes. Coffee arrived in Mexico in the late 18th century but grew significantly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries through smallholder, often Indigenous, farmers. After government support collapsed in 1989 and global coffee prices fell, farmers struggled. Since the 1990s, Fair Trade, organic practices, and cooperative, especially in Oaxaca, Veracruz, and Chiapas, have strengthened sustainability and market access, though challenges like coffeeleaf rust and labor loss persist. 250g pack Espresso Recipe: 18-19g coffee (finely ground) brew time 28 seconds 38-42ml espresso Filter Recipe: 6.5 grams (coarsely ground) coffee per 100ml water brew time 2.5-3.5 minutes
